Hetty and Sam began performing together in Melbourne in 2007 and share a love of old jazz standards, cha cha’s, ukuleles and business brunches on Acland Street in St Kilda – one of which lead to the idea of recording an album before Hetty headed overseas in late 2008.

Sam, Andy and Leigh had been playing together around town as an instrumental trio and had a regular spot at the Eureka Tower Belgian Beer CafĂ© in Melbourne.. and, after Hetty popped by to sit in and sing one afternoon, they decided it’d be a great line up for the record!

‘A Late Brunch on Irwell Street’ was recorded in November ’08, over two evening sessions at Barry Stockley’s North Melbourne studio “Fatsound”. All tracks were recorded live, all in the one room – the only overdub being a cheeky bit of rhythm ukulele on Quando Quando.

The swinging string sound of this quartet is something very special and has gained a lot of interest internationally – featuring the combined magic of three of Melbourne’s finest jazz instrumentalists, and the sweet vintage vocals of Hetty Kate.
